Welcome
The International Proteolysis Society conference, which is held every two years, is the major general scientific event in the field of proteases and their inhibitors, and attracts delegates drawn from all over the world. The most recent in the series was held in Surfer’s Paradise, Australia in 2009 where over 300 delegates attended. Proteases are key biomolecules elaborated by almost every living organism and play roles in most signaling pathways. Proteases are implicated in human diseases including cancer, neurodegeneration, inflammation and immunity, bacterial and viral infection, and cardiovascular disease, and are thus key therapeutic targets. Protease-dependent drugs that combat diseases such as HIV infection, cancer, malaria, diabetes, heart attack, and stroke provide a foundation for exploring this large and diverse group of enzymes for the benefit of human health. The International Proteolysis Society conference brings together researchers from a wide variety of fields, to provide educational, training, and networking opportunities at all levels, and to continue to forge international links between academic and industrial organizations with common interests in proteolysis.
